Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most

Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most

In this lesson, we’ll explore a solo guitar arrangement of the beautiful jazz standard “Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most.”

The arrangement is played in a rubato style, allowing the melody, harmony, and natural decay of the chords to determine the pacing. Along the way, we’ll explore reharmonization techniques including tritone substitutions, dominant approaches, chromatic approaches, inner-line movement, and voice leading to create a richer harmonic setting for the melody.

The accompanying PDF includes the complete arrangement in standard notation and TAB, the original lead sheet, performance notes, and explanations of the harmonic devices used throughout.

As always, the goal isn’t simply to memorize an arrangement—it’s to understand the musical choices behind it and incorporate those sounds into your own playing.
