Barry Greene Video Lessons

I must be ready, because Barry Greene just appeared!

I'm an advanced novice who has studied with another highly respected online instructor for a couple of years. I've internalized the basics (251s, drop 2/3 chords, arpeggios, five positions, etc.) but I'm stuck -- I'm just not getting a bebop sound yet in my lines, and I think it might be because in the other instructor "no-nonsense" approach it takes a very long time before chromatic tones are introduced, but with Barry, there they are, right there in the very first 2-5-1 lesson. Charlie Parker!

Ditto. That's my challenge. Building a vocabulary. I try to learn the lines in Barry's PDF's and immediately force them into tunes. If I learn a ii-V-I, I will learn it in any position where it's comfortable, and then play it in any tune that calls for a ii-V-I. I find that after many hours of doing that, I will have it in my ear ready to play in any situation.

After talking with many musicians, I've learned that contrary to popular belief, even the greats aren't "making it up as they go". Lines come from practice. People play things they have practiced (with slight embellishments). Sure there is the occasional burst of brilliance that just appears out of nowhere, but I think John Scofield once said "Everybody has Sh%& they play".....
