I like how Barry is utilizing Ableton Live for recording a few choruses of comping and then , off he goes in real time soling over said changes in tempo.
Is there a stomp box that can do this? I'm thinking of getting a little "support" for solo live gigs where I essentially do this at a live venue. (Not sure if there is a drummer complement solution as well but wouldn't that be nice too).

Digitech Jam man -- the two pedal model. This might be what you are looking for. I've never used in any kind of pro gig situation, only around the house, but it does what you want. The single pedal model works too, but hard to control.

I then run Drum Genius into the second input jack and record my loop pass(es). I then stop drum genius right after I stop my recording loop (however many chorsus of comps I want) and now I have a drum and rhythm loop under which I can play live.
