Regarding the "Bebop" scale:
There are actually more bebop scales than the Dom7th that Barry references here that use the same concept of adding a passing tone to create an eight note scale where you can get all of the strong chord tones to land on the downbeat.
While you're practicing them, remember that you can start on the Root, 3rd, 5th or 7th and ascend or descend and still get the sound of chord tones on the strong beat. There is the tendency to always start from the root, but remember the other options.
