I will get to that this summer, the resolution of that video is not good enough to work on this site. I love that tune and will get to it soon.

It's a great lesson. What would be a suitable scale on the F9b13 going in to the bridge? Chords with both natural and altered extensions confuses me alot.
Technically your choices would be the 5th mode of melodic minor or the whole tone scale. In reality the chord is a V7 going to a I7. You can use any altered dominant scale that you'd like. Just playing blues in that spot sounds great too. Don't let the chord symbols force your hand. The sound of a V-I can be treated in any way.

The 13th will basically tell you if diminished is an option. If it's altered, you probably want to stay away from diminished since the natural 13 will rub.
True, but keep all options open as any dominant sound will work in that situation.
I guess it's all about what's happening in the moment. The chord (extensions) will probably change from chorus to chorus, depending on the skills of the players.

good point. If I decide to play diminished over the dominant, then whoever is comping should be able to hear that and avoid the b13. So indeed there is a potential rub, but it's up to the people comping to avoid it not the soloist. And it's important that as a guitarist that you avoid creating said rub when you are comping because they can unplug your amp :)
