Am I the only one who also think of each SJC belonging to/arriving from a mode? So for example altered = altered scale, min6/9 = Dorian, sus(b9) = Phrygian dominant?
When I started to learn the voicings I quickly connected each of them to the Dorian(major scale) and mm shape underneath them. And from there on I kinda just always automatically connected each chord to a mode. Of course I know I can play mm and Dorian over any of the chords, but it’s cool to be able to see how all the modes lie directly underneath. Of course, if you think like Barry(as I also do), you connect all modes to parent major scale.
