Hey Barry,
I love the lesson. In this lesson you provide numerous examples, of the 3 sections of 4 bar phrases (linear or chordal), at my level they all seem to jump around and connecting them is difficult - I think because sometimes you start on the bar prior or after to create forward motion.
My real question stems from my difficulty using your 5 position study (although I have only just started position 3, perhaps thats why), in the blues context.
Do I think of the position based on the I7 or as the Imaj7? because in the latter case, sure the V7 is dominant there (which is the I7) of the blues, but then the IV7 would not be the actual IV of that position, it would be the IV of the Imaj7.
I will use specifics just so my question is clear - F blues, F7. I would be thinking of positions of BbMaj7 (from your 5 position study positions). Okay so lets pick position 1 at the root 5th string. Secret Jazz chord is the V7 at that position, but then the IV at that position is EbMaj7 (6th string root).... but as you know we are looking for Bb7 not Eb7... so there lies my confusion, because then I am trying to manipulate the BbMaj7 chord to be Bb7 at that position 1 etc etc and none of that can be done on the fly. And this happens with every chord in the progression, specifically in the blues context.
Thanks for your wise input.
