I’ll also throw the solo section to Spain by Chick Corea out there. Forgive me if this has already been mentioned.

I'm trying to solo on "Remember" using the Hank Mobley changes. It's in Ab and has the declining DbMaj7 CALT B7 Bb7 Bb-7 E7 Ab progression going on. I know they are tritone subs and use the appropriate Melodic Minor, but I'm still having a hard time making it all sound melodic. Have you done a lesson on navigating through the descending chromatic dominant stuff with single line solos yet? If so, can you tell me where it is and if not, I'd love for you to do a lesson on Hank Mobley's version of Remember. Thanks!
“Like Someone in Love” would be a nice one to see.
Hi Barry,
Many thanks for your invaluable lessons. Regarding tunes repertoire I could use some help on the following tunes:
- Along Came Betty
- Whisper Not
- Autumn in New York
I know they are not the simplest, so I should focus on some easier ones, but they are so exiting I can't help it, I must hear and try to play them.
I
I love these, thanks!
Also would like to throw out as an idea some really old standards, like pre-war, transitional swing stuff. Would make for some interesting analysis as some of them have uncommon changes in them.
As an idea:
- I Cover The Waterfront
- I’m Confessin’ (That I Love You)
- Honeysuckle Rose
- Stardust
- I’ll Be Seeing You
- I’ll See You In My Dreams
- Etc.
Stuff like that.
Matt, I like that idea!
Awesome! Thanks. Any chance you’re doing Along Came Bettt as a samba, ala Martino’s icionic take on it? Oh, the other request I wanted to make was for Martino’s “Lean Years”. Thanks.
Hi Barry,
Many thanks for implementing my wish Along Came Betty. I've just seen your preview on YouTube, it's great.
Mentioning the great Benny Golson, he is past 90 and in tour(!) soon in Wien and Budapest. What a player, what tunes and impros... sometimes in his side with Freddie Hubbard, also one of the greatest...
Hi Barry,
I'm a new member of your site. I really enjoyed your lesson on soloing over Out of Nowhere. My suggestion may be too elementary for some, but I would certainly benefit from an Out of Nowhere specific lesson on drop-2 & drop 3 comping.
Welcome to the site! Check out some of the newer lessons that I’ve done on standard tunes. For the past nine months or so I’ve been giving a lot of comping examples on all of the lessons. All the information in those lessons can be easily transferred to out of nowhere. Please let me know how you make out!
Hi Barry,
New student here ! From France.
What about some Django Reinhardt standards ?
I love Clouds and Django's Castle for instance, and I found them very hard to play properly.
I've been playing for more than 20 years and it's the first time I have the feeling online lessons can bring me to the next level.
Thanks for all Barry.
Thanks so much for your requests and comments! I have a lot planned for the summer months! -Barry
Hi Barry,
Love all your lessons thanks for all the great insight. I was wondering if you could do a lesson on a jazz blues (maybe Billie's Bounce)? Where you discuss your approach to the form particular through measures 7-12 without and with substitutions. I know you already have examples of blues tunes but maybe treat this as an add on to the Barry's basics list.
Thanks
Paul
Thanks for the suggestion Paul, great idea

I would love to see a lesson on using triad pairs over Maj, Min, & dominant chords, and also on some cadences.
Go to the search tab and type in triad pairs. I have lessons that cover all of what you’re asking. The search function also checks the lesson description so it will turn up a lot of lessons.
