"I'm Old Fashioned" would be nice to learn.
Thanks!
How about "Just In Time" by Jule Styne
I was playing with a singer yesterday and she said she loved to sing "April In Paris". I've always loved that song but playing that song, especially when it's just a guitar and singer, seems so hard for me to make it sound right. I'm not sure how to best approach it. Is that a song you would enjoy doing a lesson on?
Certainly, I have a few things I want to get done before then, but it’s a great suggestion. Thank you.
Can you do Speak Low for us? Pretty please? (at a moderate tempo) It seems like that tune would have a lot of nice teaching moments.
I have a few things to do before I can get to that, but I will do my best!
Thanks,
Barry
No problem. I'm never disappointed with your lesson and tune ideas. I'm just giving you ideas in case you get stuck :)
Wow, that We'll Be Together Again lesson and performance was stunning and gorgeous! The ton of harmonic lesson stuff you teach is so helpful. Chord Melody has never been my strength but your lessons (not only the ones in the chord melody section) are making it easier for the chord melody "navigation" to just come out. That being said, it's the transition to finger style that seems to intimidate me more now. You mentioned in the lesson that you've been working on your single line finger technique and it TOTALLY shows! As great as you are with the picking, when you play finger style it's mesmerizing your heart and tone shows through so much more. Yet you don't really seem to be doing some sort of formal classical alternating fingering kind of technique. I know in the past you've talked about practicing with the Giuliani exercises, and I guess I can work on those if that is still your current recommendation. But maybe your current thinking is more of a "just go for it" kind of thing (?) Which I sense is what Joe Pass also did (?) Anyway, I was wondering if, since you've recently been focusing on developing your fingerstyle technique more, do you feel you have some tips that are fresh in your mind to share about what you are focusing on as you work on your finger style single line technique? If there is not enough info for a lengthy lesson... maybe a great Stepping Stone topic (?)
Thank You! Yes it's been more of what you've said here "But maybe your current thinking is more of a "just go for it" kind of thing (?) Which I sense is what Joe Pass also did" I do have a method though. It's the same way I've always practiced which is to pick a tune, setup a drumgenius loop, and play. If I make a technical mistake, I fix it before moving on. I'm playing the exact same way I would when using a pick, I just do it much slower in order to build technique. I did those Giuliani exercises for quite a while but it's morphed into the Joe Pass thing you've described. I've watched enough Joe videos that it has to have had an impact on me. Thanks again!
How about "You Stepped Out of a Dream"?
Can you do Minority?
I always love how you teach how to play everything (chords and lines) all in one area AND when you show the whole tune in "the meat" of the guitar in at least 3 and hopefully areas. Have you done a lesson on Confirmation? I am practicing that now and find myself jumping all over the place think it would be a great lesson. :)
Great request, thank you!
Barry
Great! It's the "learn to play everything in one place concept (chords, melody, improv)" that I need the most help and practice with (like your now famous TWNBAY lesson.) You may feel you've already said all you need on that lesson and others, but I feel this subject is the most helpful to me among all the other fantastic topics you demonstrate and teach. Having some more tunes to demonstrate how you apply your "5 Position Study" (chords, melody and improv) is so helpful!
Chord melody suggestions:
1. Somewhere beyond the sea
2. Satan get thee behind me
3. Lullaby of birdland
I wasn't going to listen to the "Isn't She Lovely" lesson because I figured "Nah, I have too many straight-ahead jazz tunes to focus on learning." But now I finally did do the lesson and WOW! There is SO much great stuff in there. And you play beautifully on that whole lesson! I'll have to check out that Birelli version for sure. I'm writing this here in the request section because you asked if there are other backing tracks we may want and since I don't have this one, and not in G, I'd love for you to post this backing track. It's a very cool groove. Thanks!
Thanks so much, I’ll have to dig up that session to see if I can find the track I made. Thanks again!!
Hello Barry,
I just joined up and there is so much go to through.
I love your chord melody stuff and I would love to see a lesson on how you go about arranging a chord melody piece. Maybe you already have this lesson on there, or it's contained on another lesson on the site? If so maybe you would be able to point me in the right direction?
Thanks for all the great stuff so far.
Thanks and welcome!
All of these lessons feature a thorough explanation of every method I use for harmonizing a melody. Check them out here: https://barrygreenevideolessons.vhx.tv/chord-melody-lessons

Thanks Barry, I'll work through these.
I would love to see a chord melody lesson on Stardust - one of my standards ever.
Best wishes!

A Thank You :)
No request at this moment, since I know you have million of them from us in the pipeline. But after re listening to many of the past lessons I just want to say "Thanks" for staying so consistent with constantly coming out with new tunes to give us and taking so much care and time with each of them. I'm sure talking to a camera with no live feedback may seem thankless sometimes, and I know you may sometimes feel you've taught the same things on so many lessons but each one sinks in just a little bit deeper when applied to different tunes. So thank you for all the detail and time you take on doing these.
Sorry for the late reply... Thank you very much, I'm very happy that you are enjoying the lessons:)

Hey Barry,
I've just signed up and am almost overwhelmed by the amount of content, but encouraged too. Could you do an analysis of So May it Secretly Begin by Pat Metheny? I love the lines played and would love to understand any theory underneath and how to apply them. Thanks! :)
Welcome to the site and thanks for your request!
Barry
Super excited you just posted a new lesson. (Solar) It makes the weekend more FUN. I was just checking out again your Five 5 minute True Fire lessons. Now that I've learned more from you since the first time I watched them I realize what a fantastic review they are for me. You found a way to squeeze 45 minutes into 5 in an extremely organized and succinct lesson about one key concept per lesson. For the first 5 you covered The Secret Jazz Chord, a technique idea (really 3), Major and Minor ii-V-I in all five positions and finally playing over static minor as Wes did (harmonizing the 6th Diminished scale as Barry Harris calls). Love it all!
Here is my request:
Can you continue with this 5 minute lesson (review) concept with additional favorite key concepts of yours using the same format and focus as the first five? They are so helpful to review all the many key concepts you bring up during your regular lessons
You Stepped Out of A Dream would be a nice lesson.
