But I know a lot of us new guys are looking for linear materiel over the 1 chord, that's one thing you don't see a lot of in book and such. there's many tunes that 2 bars of the 1 chord and looking for ways to create tension or just beautiful lines.

Hey Ken,
Check out the dominant chord study lesson:
https://barrygreenevideolessons.vhx.tv/videos/dominant-chord-study-essential
Barry mentions briefly the topic of static I chords at ~11:20.
In short, he suggests to alternate between the sound of I and V7. Obviously with nice examples. Check it out.
Cheers.
Thank you
Ken,
You can play a turnaround, check out "Bye Bye Blackbird" I-vi-ii-V-I. What Tamir said is another good one. A third idea is to practice the major scale without the 4th. I notice a lot of Barry's lines come from that 6 note scale.
Hey Ken,
There are plenty of good jazz lines in Barrys minor and major 251 Studies Plus a ton of Barry's solo's in his song studies. Plus hopefully you are already transcribing and getting your own lines! We have to take SOME responsibility ourselves for learning this stuff.........
If you are the same Ken from the Jimmy Bruno forums eight years ago or so....... This is Bob the guitar doctor and I am back to haunt you! LOL
Hi Bob,
Yes I was a member of the Jimmy Bruno Site :)
