1) I would like to ask you if you could do a lesson in "playing outside". I know you touch upon the subject here and there. But a fullblown lesson would be so cool!

2) Is there any way we could hear your GREAT combing done over a walking baseline (backing track)? After all that´s the situation we most often find ourselves when giggin´. I know I´m supposed to just imagine/hear the baseline in my head, when you play the comping examples, but it would be so cool if it were actually there to hear.

3) Have you ever thought about doing lessons related to a specific artist and his og here idiosyncratic playing. For example Pat Methenys sideslipping technique? That would be nice.

Here´s a little late response :)

1) So glad to hear that you´ll do a lesson on "playing outside". Really looking forward to that!

2) Have you ever thought about using "Band in a Box" to create a backing band? In its current form all the instruments are played in studio by real muscicians. You just type in the chords, style and the tempo you want as a backing track and it´s created for you. It should take no more than 2 minutes. Off course it will never be the same as playing with muscicians with ears :). But its a REALLY good substitut.

New question:

3) I simply adore your comping!! It is so beatiful, and I love your videos! But here´s my question in regard to ALL of your stunning comping:

1) Would you comp the same way if you played with a bassplayer (you often comp with a lot of low rootnotes. Do you think that that it´s necessary considering that the base in most cases will play the root note?)

2) With regards to your reharmonization on the spot: Let´s say you play with a bassplayer that plays the basic chords of a blues. Off course the dominant approach, tritonesub etc. will work just before you get to your goal chord (i.e. the 5/9 measure). But what about long segments of backcycling or more far out stuff like Giant Steps subs? Would you stille play that even though the bassplayer plays a more or less straight blues form? My experience is that i often gets muddy if the bassplayer dosen´t pick up on it.

2) What about the situation with another chordal instrument like the piano? In that situation, as I see it, i don´t think you can reharmonize as freely as you suggest in your videos, due to the fact that theres another chordal instrument. In that situation, as I have experienced it, it´s all about listening very closely to what the other chordal instrument is doing/not doing, and find out what works in the spur of the moment. Wouldent you agree?

I would really like to hear your thoughts on these questions if you can find the time to reply.

Thank you for the thorugh and quick response. That Means a lot! Interesting that you always follow the pianist and not vice versa (if I underestand you correctly?). Looking forward to the new lesson :)
