I was wondering would it be possible in the near future to do a lesson on some jazz trumpet players that have unique playing styles that can be transferred over to guitar. Example of the type of trumpet players would be Clifford Brown, Lee Morgan and Blue Mitchell. A lesson on these players can add some variety to how us jazz guitar players compose our lines.
I like the idea of not limiting our influences to guitar players. We tend to play lines that lay out better for us on the fretboard, and all it takes is transcribing a horn line to see that some lines are nearly impossible to pull off on a guitar (especially at tempo).
It seems that the suggestion is to highlight a soloist and break down the elements of their style similar to what Barry does with his (four up/four down) Bird lines. I think the challenge is going to be to translate this type of lesson to the video medium. Most of the time I see this stuff covered in written material where a solo is transcribed along with chord/scale choices and phrasing explanations.
Now that I think about it; on the Donna Lee lesson, Barry does use the head to explain anticipation and delayed resolution, where an idea is played over the bar line into the next chord. I guess that kind of stuff might fit what your asking, but in the context of trumpet players.
I've never played a horn, and my ears aren't developed enough to tell if there are specific harmonic elements or soloing styles that separate trumpet, sax, keyboard, guitar etc. other than technical difficulty from one to the other.
