Id like to request a short lesson on preparing to play a solo set. Im at the point where I have a small repertoire but am wanting to expand it to the point of playing out.
Id be really curious to hear your take on a few things:
1. Choice of standards- I realise this is pretty much up to the player but over the years you must have spotted standards that frequently crop up in solo sets and work well in this context. Perhaps you could reccomend some that you consider go-to standards for solo playing?
2 What sort of mix- ballads, blues, uptempo, latin. How do you approach putting a set together? Again this is a personal choice for most but Im curious how you might put a set list together in terms of style, tempo and pacing.
3.Preparation- any tips you may have on 'putting it all together'. At times it seems quite a daunting task! :)
