I was wondering if the pdfs were generated by Guitar Pro or something else? If so, can you make the learning materials available in Guitar Pro format?
I think Barry uses Sibelius to create the PDFs.
Well, guitar pro does import files from MusicXML. That would be a nice feature to include for us GP users. Is there a reason why Barry isn't replying to this directly? I guess I don't know who you are, Kurt In Austin.
I am an online student of Barry's for many years and frequent contributor to this forum. Barry doesn't respond to every post. if I see a question that goes for days with no response, I try to help. We all should do that.
I didn't know what Guitar Pro was, so I did some research on compatibility with Sibelius to answer your second question. I don't speak for Barry.
I don’t receive notifications a forum posts through Vimeo. I only receive notifications when someone comments on a specific lesson. I do my best to answer all of those as quickly as possible. The forum is designed for users of the website not necessarily for me. And to answer your original question, as Kurt pointed out the PDF format is universal and works great for everyone. Thanks.
Thanks, Barry. Could you add MusicXML as an additional download format to your PDFs?
The PDF has been working for so long Mike. I would have to deal with the organizational aspect of that as well. I do this by myself including the marketing and promotional side of things plus a full course load at UNF, two sons and a girlfriend. Even if I did do that, I would never be able to go back and do that for 125+ lessons.
OK, thanks for the consideration, Barry. The content is superb and I am loving it so far.
I have put 30 or so on GP and it is fairly easy after you groove in to it.
Hey Barry,
I've been a longtime member and am a huge fan of your teaching methods and resources. Thank you for all that you do.
I came across this link on Google: https://www.scoringnotes.com/tips/converting-folders-of-sibelius-scores-to-different-formats/
It highlights an efficient method to batch convert Sibelius files into MusicXML. This could allow for storing them in a separate Dropbox folder or even rendering them concurrently with PDFs.
Here's why MusicXML (importable to Guitar Pro) would benefit your students:
1>Guitar Pro displays music on a fingerboard, showcasing both chords and individual lines.
2>It offers adjustable playback speeds and the ability to loop specific segments.
The tool can repeat sections, gradually increasing the tempo—ideal for mastering tempo.
3>Users can audibly hear and visually see lines and chords on the fretboard simultaneously.
4>It also supports the categorization and storage of specific lines for future practice, such as "Major II V single lines by position with linked chord forms".
5>Many of us, myself included, frequently manually use Guitar Pro to sift through your expansive content.
If incorporating this feels too overwhelming, perhaps you'd consider allowing a subscriber to manage the conversions on your behalf?
Introducing changes can indeed be daunting. However, integrating MusicXML might substantially enhance the learning experience for your audience. I genuinely hope you'd give it some thought. Regardless of your decision, please know that we remain ever appreciative and supportive.
I'll look into this although the PDF's have been in three formats. I'm currently using Finale but have also used Sibelius and Musecore. If I begin to create a second document for the lessons, it would be unlikely that I would do it on prior lessons and only begin to add this feature to upcoming lessons. I will experiment with it before releasing "Pent-Up House" this week. Thanks very much! -Barry
I just tried opening an XML file in MuseScore that was created in Finale. The chord symbols are gibberish and the tablature is wrong... I couldn't put that on the website without extensive editing. -Barry
Appreciate your efforts.
FYI, I just attempted to import a MusicXML file into MuseScore, which I had previously imported successfully into Guitar Pro 8. In MuseScore, however, the import was a mess.
In Guitar Pro 8, MusicXML files import flawlessly – complete with notes, articulations, tabs, and chords.
Would it be possible for you to email me the MusicXML file, or perhaps the Finale file? I'd like to try importing it into Guitar Pro, where I am 99% sure it will work. My email is [email protected].
Just to clarify, wasn't requesting any reformatting on your end. Just a simple export to MusicXML. Not trying to add any extra work for you. :-).
