I am new to jazz and have spent my time with the finger picking styles of Chet Atkins and Tommy Emmanuel. I've always been intrigued with musicians who can make it happen solo without band or accompaniment. I've been trying to apply my limited knowledge of chords and bass lines to come up with a version of "Straighten Up and Fly Right. I love the cartoon humor of this kind of song (I have small granddaughters :)) John Pizzarelli does a nice trio version, kind of a comping style. Anyone or Barry have some thoughts about how to approach it?
