We play this tune in our band and I'm having a hard time keeping it interesting for myself when comping. Are there some cool substitutions you could recommend?

It's a relatively simple tune, I wouldn't worry about substitutions. Just recognize that the over all tonality is Bb-. Start by utilizing the melody of the tune in the top voice of the chord, then create another simple melodic idea and harmonize it with the given chords. Also keep in mind that Bb-7 and Dbmaj7 are the same chord so essentially you're just going back and forth between Bb-7 and C-7. Melody is the key to al of it. -barry
