I know you have discussed this in many lessons, but can you do a lesson dedicated to when to use certain extensions or notes that you (or most traditional jazz musicians) tend to play most often from each scale over chords in specific harmonic progressions? Example: You like to skip the 4th degree of the major scale when playing over the I major 7 chord.
So, would there be other six note scales, arpeggios or key notes from scales that you like to play or avoid over other chords in specific harmonic progressions? Sweet notes! At least on strong beats.
I don't think of it in terms of specific notes. I practice lines that contain great note choices and am aware of the content of the lines but I'm not focusing on individual notes. I do when playing melodically though. Your major example is unique but again, skipping the 4th degree was learned by studying both Pat Martino and George Benson phrases. They both did that a lot. I hope that helps. (Sorry for the late reply, I don't get forum post notifications from Vimeo) - barry
