How about "Joy Spring" ? That would be a great lesson for mastering the 5 positions and playing melodically through many keys. Listening to Clifford Brown solo on that is so beautiful. He links all those key changes together in a way that it's something you can actually sing... which is so difficult to do.

Hey Barry, I would really like to hear about your point of view when it comes to contrapunctual playing (sorry if I misspelled it). It would be so cool if you could give us your take on that subject, because your would do it in such a logic, thorough and methodical way which I absolutely love! It would really be such a cool "topic" lesson! Once again, thank you for enriching my playing!
Hey Barry. Enjoying my time with your video lessons so very much. Is nice to grow and expand and often drink from your wide-open fire hydrant of ideas. I've been at it for a few months now and starting to settle in and not just "get wet". LOL
If you are still taking requests here area couple: Ceora (Lee Morgan) or Spain (Chick Corea).
Thanks Barry. I know a lot of hard work goes into all your are doing. It's making a difference!
Someday my prince will come would be awesome too :)

Hey Barry, totally enjoying each lesson. Thanks again for all of you thoughtful and hard work for us.
Question: Is anyone else having difficulty opening the backing track for Spain? I have downloaded it several times but it does not open like all the others. Just curious.
I have not heard anything at all. It’s the same format Apple uses on iTunes. -barry
Hey Barry one suggestion for a tune based lesson here
Softy as in a Morning Sunrise.
Lovin the lessons... New motivation. New sounds. New thoughts. All this is beginning to seep into my playing slowly. Thanks again!! Jim
Two suggestions:
1. Not sure if Corcovado was requested yet.
2. If possible and applicable to the theme of the site, a lesson on how to comp/interact with other harmonic elements such as piano, organ, or second guitar? So as to not get in the way of one another.
Barry - how about a topic video on Triads. I know you cover them throughout different topics and tunes, but it would be cool to have a single lesson (like the pentatonics) where you discuss triads exclusively and how to employ in different musical situations. I've been working on them lately and am amazed at how much you can do with them. My challenge is working them into a solo without making sound deliberate, where I go from playing lines and then doing triad stuff...I have the same problem with pentatonics. I have trouble making it sound organic. I always feel like there is a shift back and forth when I try to do that stuff.
Great suggestion Kurt, just recorded a lesson on Naïma so I’ll be busy with that for a while...
Besides Barry's lesson on triad pairs ....another great resource for improvising using triads is Garrison Fewell's book "A Triadic Approach" (i think thats the title).. Really cool sounds that dont sound like scales.
Thanks Kurt. I agree - I've worked with triad pairs and it doesn't flow for me yet. Sounds like I'm working with triad pairs!
Mike, right on. I guess the answer is to do more transcribing and analyze how the masters do it. I know Larry Carlton is big on upper structure triads, but I've never sat down and broken down one of his solos like that. But he always seems to choose the right notes.
I want to sound like it's not forced, but my problem is likely that I'm overthinking. I'm not to the point where I'm hearing the lines and they just happen to be triads, I"m thinking, "I'm running out of vocabulary, and I've got 2 more choruses to fill....let's do triads!... or pentatonic stuff...etc."
How bout giant steps changes as sub for ii-v-1 ie; tranes "But Not For Me' or B&S changes? OR maybe, if we're on a Metheny thing "Brite Size Life"-BTW I've seen a lot of these guitar master video lesson sites over the decades(maybe ALL of them) & you have this concept down like nobody else. PLUS you're actually a legitimate jazz guitar master. I've seen some very well organized sites put out from mediocre players (what's the point of that?) Keep up the GREAT work. Cheers-g
